Test Results for Study Participants

These instructions are for study participants only.

Viewing test results this way requires participants to log in using the password provided by FTDNA. If you're not a participant, but would still like to view results, click here.

Logging in to the FTDNA site will allow you to view the raw DYS values. However, they're just numbers when viewed by themselves and really aren't that useful. Perhaps the most productive use of your results is to compare them to other participants. The steps below will help you do that, using the FTDNATiP tool.

  1. Log in using the kit number and password sent to you by Family Tree DNA. (Show Me)

  2. You should now be on the myFTDNA page.

  3. In the left-hand navigation bar, under the "Y-DNA" section, click on "Matches". (Show Me)

  4. Click on the FTDNATiP icon to run the comparison against any participant in the list. (Show Me)

A sample comparison using FTDNATiP will look something like this.

In comparing 67 markers, the probability that Kevin M. Arnold and Cecil B. Arnold shared a common ancestor within the last...
4 generations
is

44.53%
8 generations
is

84.2%
12 generations
is

96.62%
16 generations
is

99.38%
20 generations

As you can see, the benefit to comparing your results is in helping you determine those participants with whom you should be collaborating. In this example, there's a strong likelihood of a common ancestor in recent generations. Therefore, these two participants should work together, compare notes, etc.
