Land Deed - Dorcas Calvert, Preston and Ann Hampton to Simeon ArnoldFebruary 23, 1846 Source: Franklin County, Kentucky, Deed Book 2, p. 277-8 This indenture, made and entered into this 23rd day of February 1846 between Dorcas Calvert and Preston Hampton, being the heir and widow of William Hampton deceased, both of Franklin County and State of Kentucky of the first part, and Simeon Arnold of the County and State aforesaid of the second part, witnesseth: That the said part of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of eighty two dollars fifty cents to them in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents have granted, bargained and sold unto the said party of the second part one certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in Franklin County on the head waters of Steeles Branch, the same tract of land which was allotted and set apart for Dorcas Calvert late Dorcas Hampton by an order of the Franklin County Court at their November Term 1844 which _____ tract is bounded as follows. Beginning at a sour oak stump, corner to John Morris and with his line North18 E87 poles to a _____ in Morris' line at the mouth of Calvert's lane and with the same N83 E125 poles to two sugar trees on Perkins original line now Calverts, and with said Perkins line South 45 E80 poles to a road from Frankfort to Owenton same course continued to the beginning, containing thirty three and one fourth acres be the same more or less. Together with all our interest, now undivided in John Hampton interest one of the heirs of Wm Hampton decd who died intestate. Together with all and singular the premises thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining. To have and to hold the land hereby conveyed with the appurtenances unto the same party of the second part, their heirs and assigns forever. And the said party of the first part for themselves, their heirs, executors and administrators, the aforesaid tract of land and premises unto the said party of second part, their heirs or assigns against the claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatever doth and will forever warrant and defend by these presents. In witness whereof the said part of the first part have hereunto set their hand and seal the day and day above written. witness, S. Bristow Dorcas Calvert (by her mark) Kentucky, Franklin County We, H. Sanders and S. Bristow, two of the Commonwealth justices of the peace for said County, do certify that formerly Dorcas Hampton and late Dorcas Calvert this day personally and the Ann Hampton and as appeared before us who being examined privily and apart and apart from her husband as the law directs, voluntarily with her own freewill and consent, relinquishes her right of dower to the premises conveyed by this deed and the same is certified to the Clerk of the County Court for the County of Franklin for record where the premises lie. Given under our hand & seals this the 23 of February 1846. Hugh Sanders State of Kentucky I, Alexander H. Rennick, Clerk of the County court for the County of Franklin, do certify that the foregoing deed from Dorcas Calvert and Preston Hampton and his wife Ann S. Hampton to Simeon Arnold was produced to me in my office on the first day of April 1846 and was acknowledged by Preston Hamptom to be his act & deed, and afterwards on the 5th day of August 1846 and was proven by the oath of Samuel Bristow to be his act & deed of the said Dorcas Calvert. And afterwards on the 17th day of August 1846 was proven by the oath of Hugh Sanders to be the act & deed of the said Dorcas Hampton, whereupon the said deed together with the certificate endorsed & the foregoing certificate have been duly recorded in my office.
