Land Deed - Archibald and Mary F. Quarles to Benjamin S. ArnoldJuly 16, 1845 Source: Franklin County, Kentucky, Deed Book 2, p. 331 This indenture, made and entered into this 16th day of July in the year of our Lord 1845, between Archibald Quarles and Mary F. Quarles, his wife, of the County of Franklin in the State of Kentucky of the one part, and Benjamin S. Arnold of the County and State aforesaid of the other part, witnesseth: That the said Quarles & wife, for and in consideration of the sum of five hundred dollars paid & secured to be paid, have sold & by these presents do sell, alien and convey unto said Arnold, his heirs & assigns forever, all their undivided interest in a certain tract or parcel of land lying & being in the County of Franklin & State of Kentucky on the waters of the Kentucky River containing about three hundred & eighty acres being the same tract whereon Wm E. Quarles died, seized & possessed, their interest being one eighth part, which said interest having been sold by said Quarles & wife to said Arnold previously by the division of said tract of land, in conformity to a decree of the Chancellor of the Franklin Circuit Court was laid off to said Arnold by the Commissioner in said decree. To have and to hold the land hereby conveyed with the appurtenances unto the said B. S. Arnold, his heirs & assigns forever, and the said Quarles and wife for themselves, their heirs & the aforesaid interest in said tract of land and appurtenances unto the said B. S. Arnold, his heirs & assigns against the claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatever doth and will forever warrant and defend by these presents. In witness whereof the said A. Quarles & Mary F. Quarles his wife have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first herein written. Archibald Quarles State of Kentucky, Franklin County We, Hugh Sanders & Samuel Bristow, two of the Commonwealth justices of the peace for said county, do certify that Mary F. Quarles, the wife of the within named Archibald Quarles, this day personally appeared before us, who being examined privately & apart from her husband as the law directs, voluntarily with her own free will and consent relinquish her right of dower to the premises conveyed by this deed, and the same is certificated to the Clerk of the County Court for the County of Franklin for record where the premises lie. Given under our hands and seals this 22nd day of July 1845. Hugh Sanders State of Kentucky I, Alexander H. Rennick, Clerk of the County Court for the County of Franklin, do certify that the foregoing deed from Archibald Quarles and wife to Benjn S. Arnold was this day produced to me in my office and was acknowledged by the said Archibald Quarles to be his act & deed. Whereupon the said deed, together with the foregoing certificate & this certificate, is truly recorded in my office. Witness my hand as clerk as aforesaid this 20th day of January 1847. A. H.
