Note: A common nickname for Ann was Nancy, which is why you'll often see Benjamin S. Arnold's wife referred to as Nancy. Several sites, including the Connecticut State Library, verify the use of Nancy as a nickname.


KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS, That we, Benjamin Arnold, Will E. Bartlett and John G. Haydon are held and firmly bound unto the Commonwealth of Kentucky, in the sum of 50l. to the payment whereof well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs &c. jointly and severally, firmly by these presents.  Sealed with our seals, and dated this 17th day of Sept. 1827.

The condition of the above obligation is such, that whereas a marriage is shortly intended to be solemnized between the above bound Benjn. Arnold and Ann H. Quarles of this county:

Now, shall it always hereafter appear, that there is no just cause to obstruct the said marriage then the above obligation be void, else to remain in full force and virtue.
