Please to grant the marriage license between John Knowlin and Jamimy Arnold, both living in this parish. Given from and in my our hands this 17 day of October.

To Wm. George Brooke

Know all men by these presents that we, John Knowling and Seymour Arnold, are held & firmly bound unto his Excellency Patrick Henry Esq., Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, in the sum of fifty pounds current money, to which payment well and truly to be made to the said Patrick Henry & his successors for the use of the Commonwealth.

We bind ourselves, each of us, our & each of our heirs, exors. & admors., jointly & severally firm by these presents, sealed with our seals & dated this 20th day of October 1785.

The condition of the above is such that whereas there is a marriage shortly intended to be solemnized between the above bound John Knowling & Jemima Arnold, for which a license hath issued.

Now if there be no lawfull cause to obstruct the said intended marriage, then this obligation to be void or else to remain in force.
