Marriage Bond for Seymour Arnold and Molly Knowling (Noland)October 20, 1785 Source: Fauquier County, Virginia, MB I, p. 153 Know all men by these presents that we, Seymour Arnold and John Knowling, are held & firmly bound unto his Excellency Patrick Henry Esq., Governor of Virginia, in the sum of fifty pounds current money, to which payment well and truly to be made to the said Patrick Henry & his successors for the use of the Commonwealth. We bind ourselves and each of us, our & each of our heirs, exors. & admors., jointly & severally firmly by these presents, sealed with our seals & dated this 20th day of October 1785. The condition is that whereas there is a marriage shortly intended to be solemnized between the said Seymour Arnold and Molly Knowling, for which a license hath issued. Now if there be no lawfull cause to obstruct the said intended marriage, then the above obligation to be void or else to remain in force. Seemore Arnold Sealed & delivered in presence of E. W. Brooke.
