Marriage Bond for Thomas Arnold and Peggy SanfordJanuary 27, 1802 Source: Orange County, Virginia, Marriage Book 5, p. 136 Know all men by these presents, that we, Thomas Arnold & Pierce Sanford, are held and firmly bound unto his excellency ____ ____ ____, governor or chief magistrate of the commonwealth of Virginia, in the just and full sum of one hundred and fifty dollars, to which payment well and truly to be made to our said governor or his successors, for the use of the said commonwealth, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents: Sealed with our seals and dated this 27th day of January 1802. The condition of the above oligation is such that whereas there is a marriage shortly intended to be had and solemnized between the above bound Thomas Arnold and Peggy Sanford. If therefore there be no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage, then the above obligation to be void or else to remain in full force and virtue. Executed in presence of Thomas Arnold |
